Stag Leap
The solid body Stag Leap, named for a modern dance move of the same name, is an exercise in lyricism and muscularity, aiming to capture the dynamic gesture of free expression. I hand-carve each instrument - no CNC, mechanical duplicator, etc, is involved. I use simple hand tools to create every plane and contour of its complex shape, spending days doing what automated production tooling could do in less than an hour. There's nothing practical about doing it this way, but the result is a unique sculptural statement that represents this artist's personal vision, judgment, taste, and skills at a moment in time.
For all it's dramatic form as an art guitar, the Stag Leap is a dedicated performance instrument that sounds and plays as well as any guitar possibly can. The Stag Leap's on-board electronic setup offers a broad soundscape of electric guitar voices for everything from clean, quiet jazz to mind-bending overdriven lead work. The Stag Leap's neck is figured hard rock maple neck and its body is alder - a classic formula for its classic feel and sound.
