Richard Shindell

After Richard had the opportunity to play a CFox Guitar he had his manager contact us to give his impression of the instrument. The letter started, "Dear Mr. Fox, Our client Richard Shindell, recently had the occasion to play a OOO and an OM style of your guitars. He called them, 'categorically, the finest he's ever played.' Richard is a guitar head. He doesn't say such things." Finally the letter closed with "Richard currently does not endorse any guitar. Up until now he hasn't wanted to. However, he would very much like to become an endorsee of CFox Guitars." Our response was immediate. It is our pleasure to invite a magnificent artist like Richard Shindell to join our CFox Family of players.

"Richard Shindell is one of the best songwriters of this or any other era," says Joan Baez. Dar Williams calls him simply "a truly great American songwriter."

The folk supergroup Cry Cry Cry put Richard Shindell in front of a lot of people. The recording made by the trio of Shindell, Dar Williams, and Lucy Kaplansky sold over 50,000 copies in its first year and spawned an underground phenomenon of a tour. The tour was only supposed to last a month or so, but ended up being extended again and again. According to Pollstar, Cry Cry Cry ended up as one of the Top 50 Grossing Tours of the first half of 1999. "It just took on a life of its own," marvels Shindell. Joining Cry Cry Cry on-stage at various shows were such artists as Richard Thompson, Ron Sexsmith, Baez, and Buddy & Julie Miller. In 1997 and 1998, Richard Shindell spent a lot of time on the road in the US and Europe with Joan Baez, who was so impressed with his songwriting that she covered three of his songs on her Gone From Danger album.

Richard's new album Somewhere Near Paterson, produced by Larry Campbell, shows that Richard Shindell is getting pretty good at making records as well. His 1997 album, Reunion Hill, his first collaboration with Campbell (guitarist for Bob Dylan, k.d. lang and others) won "Contemporary Folk Album of the Year" from AFIM, and Paterson takes up where that one left off.

And now with continuous touring and an up coming solo live album due to be released in 2001, Richard is sure to become a household name among acoustic music fans around the world. CFox Guitars welcomes this original and talented musician to our family.
